Ms. Joyce Majiwa(OGW) (SC)- Chairperson

Ms. Joyce Majiwa(OGW) (SC). Joyce Miguda Majiwa (OGW) (SC) is a founder member and Chair Person of the Institute for Education in Democracy. Prior to becoming the Chairperson, Joyce served in the board of Directors of the institute. She has been instrumental in developing effective policies for promotion of democratic practices, civic education, capacity building as well as election monitoring. Joyce is advocate of the High court of Kenya with twenty years experience in successful legal practice. In addition, Joyce also has 20 years experience in the civil society having served several organizations in various capacities.

Joyce has provided leadership as the Chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers (Kenya FIDA K), the National Vice Chairperson and Founder-member, the League of Kenya Women Voters, delegate to the National Constitution Conference in Kenya and the Convener of the Transitional and Consequential Arrangements Committee as well as the First Vice-Chairperson, Law Society Standing Committee on Constitutional Review.  Joyce is a Legal advisor, to several national and regional civil society organizations. She has served in the boards of at least five major organizations.
Joyce was awarded the National award of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya in recognition for work her in Development and Human Rights in December, 2006 and was conferred with the rank of Senior Counsel in recognition of exemplary service to the legal and public service in Kenya in December 2012. She continues to use her expertise and experience to advance justice, human rights, democracy and development, as a referral lawyer and legal advisor, consultant in human rights, trainer in democratic governance, researcher and in gender and development.

Joyce has a law degree from University of Nairobi, Post Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies from University of Nairobi and Masters in Human Rights from University of Pretoria.
Joyce is committed the ideals of democracy, in her term as the Chair Person of the Institute for Education in Democracy, she intends to provide strategic leadership that will see the organization’s advancement and excellence in providing knowledge for democracy in Kenya and the Africa region.

Venerable Jepthah K. Gathaka

Venerable Gathaka is the Executive Director, Ecumenical Centre for Justice and Peace (ECJP) where he is also a founder Trustee of the Ecumenical Trust.He has written extensively and published materials on civic education; church, development, democracy,  governance, devolution, constitutionalism and human rights; peace education; NEPAD/APRM; Anti-Corruption and environmental issues.He is a training facilitator consultant for a wide range of ToTs on civic/voter and peace education programmes.

Jepthah has initiated, organized and participated nationally and internationally in various advocacy and lobbying efforts in the promotion of justice, peace and reconciliation, inter-religious dialogue and environment. He has also served as a Parish Priest, Diocesan Administrative Secretary, Director of Communications and briefly as a missionary Archdeacon in the Anglican Diocese of Gambia. He is a graduate of theology from the Australian College of Theology and also studied communications, elections and conflict resolution, peace building, administration/ management, human rights etc in Kenya, USA, Canada, Singapore, Denmark, Ghana and Australia.

Jepthah has been the former Senior Director for the Programme of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation of the National Council of Churches of Kenya. He then devised and implemented the first Civic Education programme in Kenya in 1991 known as Education for Participatory Democracy. As the former Chair of NEPAD/Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Governing Council in Kenya 2005-2007, he steered the country to be the second to be reviewed after Ghana. Jepthah is also a former Chair of the Board of Directors of the  Institute for Education in Democracy (IED), and he has vast experience in election Observation in Kenya, Africa Union Mission, EISA in Ghana, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Ghana, The Gambia and Gemany etc.

Ms. Aoko Midiwo-Odembo - CEO Legacy Bookshop

Ms. Aoko Midiwo-Odembo Ms. Odembo is an experienced development consultant and an entrepreneur. She is also a prominent business woman owning Legacy Bookshops in Nairobi. She is founder member of the League of Kenya Women Voters. She is also active in the informal sector as a manager and consultant.

Dr. Frank NjengaDr. Njenga is the founder Chair of IED. He is an active participant in social, political and medical fields in Kenya, Africa and the world. He is actively involved in medical research and has published extensively worldwide.

Prof. Githu Muigai - Attorney General

Prof. Githu MuigaiProf. Muigai is the current Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya. He is an experienced lawyer specializing in Public Law. He holds degrees from both Kenya and the USA and has taught law in both countries.
Over the years he has been actively involved in the legal profession as a member of the Law Society of Kenya, the International Commission of Jurists, the East Africa Law Society, as well as many others.

Mr. S. Musalia Mwenesi-Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

S. Musalia Mwenesi Mr. Mwenesi is the proprietor and the principal of the law firm, S. Musalia Mwenesi and Advocates in Nairobi, Kenya, specializing in public interest litigation relating to the rights of individuals. He is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya and a Member of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Council.

Dr. Jacinta Muteshi

Dr. Jacinta Muteshi Dr. Muteshi is a consultant and a scholar in the field of women’s rights and gender equality. She has combined research, teaching and training in Feminist/Gender, Cultural and Development studies and has published extensively in these areas.

Mr. Charles Nyachae - Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

Mr. Charles NyachaeMr. Nyachae is the Chairperson Commission on the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC).He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an experienced legal practitioner. He holds a Masters in Law (LLM) degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Bachelors of Laws (LLB) from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England.

Mr. Waikwa Wanyoike - Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

Mr. Waikwa WanyoikeMr. Waikwa has considerable experience of legal practice in public law, including in public interest litigation and human rights. He has also worked as an advocacy and clinical instructor for law students of Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada. He has written various articles in the Kenyan Dailies.

Prof. Patrick L.O. Lumumba

Prof. Patrick L.O. LumumbaProf. Lumumba is formerly the Director/Chief Executive of the Kenya Anti-corruption Commission. He is a lawyer and an Advocate of the High Courts of Kenya and Tanzania. He was a lecturer at Nairobi University School of Law for 17 years. Prof. is also the author of several books and has published widely including a variety of articles on diverse topics.

Mr. Charles Kazungu Nyoka

Mr. Charles Kazungu NyokaMr. Charles is the Finance and Administration Assistant, European Union, Delegation of the European Commission in the Republic of Kenya. He is an expert in administrative and Logistic Support, Contract Management, and Accounting. He has qualifications in Financial and Contractual Procedure, Organizational Skills, Customer Care and Team Building. He also has a CPA II from Strathmore University.

Mr. John Mark Ojwang

Mr. John Mark OjwangMr. Ojwang is the Associate Director-Research and Evaluation with the Center for Independent Research (CIR)-Kenya. He has vast experience in Programme/Project design, monitoring and evaluations systems design, strategic planning and visioning, training and facilitation. He has a Masters of Arts in International Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Education both from the University of Nairobi.

Ms. Jayne Michuki - Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

Ms. Jayne MichukiMs. Michuki is a senior lawyer with a broad legal background in corporate and commercial law. Managing Partner Kimani & Michuki Advocates. She is an expert in contract negotiation, as well as an expert facilitator and consultant. She is also a specialist in areas of elections.

Ms. Koki Muli

Ms. Koki MuliMs. Muli is former Executive Director of IED. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Researcher and a Certified Public Secretary. She was a Presidential appointee to the National Anti-corruption Campaign Steering Committee. She holds a D. Phil in International law from Oxford University, United Kingdom and also has an MA from the University of London, Great Britain.

Mr. Dennis Kiti Kashero

Mr. Dennis Kiti KasheroMr. Dennis is the General Manager, Marketing and Communications, Rift Valley Railways. He is an expert in Business Management and corporate affairs management and has traversed the continent on various assignments. Mr. Dennis has worked in various institutions such as Lafarge Sub-Saharan Africa, Bima Cement Limited, Bamburi Cement, and Nation Media Group. He has experience in marketing, risk management, project management and communications.

Mr. Hussein Dzila

Mr. Hussein DzilaMr. Dzilla is a Management Consultant at Cannon Assurance Ltd. He is a CPA graduate. He has a vast experience in accounts having previously worked with the Esatern Produce Kenya ltd as an Accounts Supervisor.

Ms. Wambui Ndung'u

Ms. Wambui Ndung'uMs. Ndung’u is currently an Assistant Executive Officer at Policy, Research and Advocacy Unit (PRAU) as well as at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Sociology University of Nairobi. She is a trained Trade Negotiator, Private- Partnership Facilitator and an ISO 9001 Auditor. She has experience in trade facilitation and economic research.

Mr. Peter Ocholla

Mr. Peter OchollaMr. Ocholla is a member, Advisory Council of URAIA (K), an associate member, CPA Australia, and also a member of Partners Reference Group GGP III. He holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce (Accounting) from La Trobe University, Australia and an International Baccalaureate Diploma from St. Mary’s School Kenya. He has worked as a Program Officer in The Caucus for Women’s Leadership and a Coach in Kenton Preparatory School, Nairobi. His overriding passion is to make a difference in people’s lives especially in the fields of human rights, gender, governance and democracy.

Mr. Aggrey ChabedaMr. Chabeda is an engineer by profession. He is a graduate of the University of Manchester, Institute of science and Technology. He is the CEO of Sky data Ltd., an IT solutions and SMS Value Added Service Provider. He is the former Chairperson of Kenya Bureau of Standards. (KEBS)

Ms. Jane Ogot

Ms. Jane OgotMs Ogot is a former chairperson of the IED board of directors. She is a social worker by profession and her area of specialization is in social welfare and community development, policy analysis, interpretation and implementation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Makerere University in Uganda.

Mr.Chris KibeMr. Kibe holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration (Finance Concentration) and Legal studies from University of Maryland University College. He has worked with the World Bank, Old Mutual Kenya, Drummond Investment Bank and NIC Capital Ltd.

Mr. Patrick Karinge

Mr. Patrick KaringeMr. Karinge is a Managing Director at Acropolis Consultants. He is a certified public accountant in Kenya. He is also a member of the Institute of Public Secretaries of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) from USIU-Africa.

Ms. Caroline Ongeri

Ms. Caroline OngeriMs Ongeri works with Rabai Operations and Maintenance Limited as the Facility Manager. She was a member of Kenya Shell Country management team as a Commercial B2B manager. She is a certified Public accountant of Kenya. She has attended several professional courses such as: Advanced Business Management; Brand and Communications; Negotiator Skills among others.
