Observation of By-Election 20 May 10
IED as part of its preparation to monitoring of the South Mugirango by-election on 10th June 2010, undertook a GPS field activity on 17th to 21st May and produced maps that will be used by the IIEC and observers during the by-election. On 3rd June IED held a partners and donors meeting in which it registered 15 representatives from 7 embassies that will be observing the by election as international observers. On 8th and 9th June IED will be conducting a training of pollwatchers at the constituency in readiness to deploy the same to all polling stations around the constituency to observe the opening, voting and closing of polling. An additional team of senior staff and partners will be in South Mugirango on 9th to 11th to observer the whole process through to the tallying and announcement of the results of the by-election. Preliminary results will be available on IED website on real time as they are announced at the polling stations. in Matuga constituency, IED has trained monitors on 2nd and deployed the same who will be observing the pre-election environment as well as recruit the poll watchers who will be trained on the 9th and 10th July 2010. The GPSing of Matuga shall be undertaken on 9th to 12th June 2010 and the maps will be ready in due course.
